MY BOARD

6th

set Sept. 3

DeSean Bishop has 151.1 half-PPR points in seven games, 21.6 a game. Among the 46 running backs in Underdog's player pool who have played at least seven games in our box-score data, that is second, behind only Jadan Baugh at 23.5.

The market took him as the seventh running back off the board, so a first-round price is returning close to a first-round running back, and the production comes from workload.

Where he went in drafts

His ADP was 11.4, the 7th running back and a first-round pick in a twelve-team draft. My board had him 6th, five spots ahead of the room. I took him at pick 9 in The Tailgate and pick 11 in Best Bowl Mania, both near his ADP.

The Tailgate team also holds three other Tennessee players: Faizon Brandon (his spotlight), Ethan Davis (his spotlight) and Braylon Staley. Four Vols on one roster is a lot of one offense.

Last year, and this year

In our 2025 box scores he had 182 carries for 1,076 yards and 16 touchdowns over 13 games, 14 carries a game. This year it is 139 carries in seven games, 19.9 a game. His yards per carry are almost unchanged, 6.0 against 5.9, so the extra work did not cost him efficiency.

The seven games

Week 1, Furman, a 56-9 win on Sept. 5: 14 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown. 13.7 points.

Week 2, at Georgia Tech, a 45-24 win on Sept. 12: 20 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns, one catch for 15. 28.7 points.

Week 3, Kennesaw State, a 42-9 win on Sept. 19: 9 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown. 12.2 points.

Week 4, Texas, a 20-17 loss on Sept. 26: 11 carries for 34 yards, three catches for 8. 5.7 points, his low and his only game without a touchdown.

Week 5, Auburn, a 24-14 win on Oct. 3: 34 carries for 220 yards and three touchdowns. 40.0 points.

Week 6, at Arkansas, a 24-17 win on Oct. 10: 19 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown. 19.8 points.

Week 7, Alabama, a 26-10 win on Oct. 17: 32 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns, three catches for 16. 31.0 points. The AP recap (Oct. 17, by Al Lesar) has him with 64 yards in the first half and the rest in the second, and calls the running game, "led by Bishop," the effective part of Tennessee's offense. Tennessee beat the No. 6 team 26-10 and Alabama had four turnovers.

The number that matters: 46% of the carries

Bishop has 139 of Tennessee's 302 rushing attempts, 46.0%. How I count it: his rushes divided by every rushing attempt Tennessee logged in the ESPN box scores, sacks included. Daune Morris is next among running backs with 58.

That share is why the score depends on the script. In the two blowouts, Furman and Kennesaw State, he had 14 and 9 carries. In the close games he is the offense: 34 against Auburn, 19 at Arkansas, 32 against Alabama. When Tennessee leads by 40, the volume goes down. The Texas game, a three-point loss with 11 carries, is the one that does not fit that pattern, and it is the one I would watch.

He has four games with 100 or more rushing yards, three of them in the last three games.

The quarterback room

Faizon Brandon threw 29 passes against Texas in Week 4 and 8 at Auburn in Week 5. George MacIntyre has had the passing attempts since: 29 against Arkansas and 31 against Alabama, per our box scores.

I own Brandon in eight of my sixteen drafts, so I notice this. For Bishop the change reads as neutral so far: he had 138 and 159 rushing yards in the two games under MacIntyre.

Verdict: right price, take him again

These are Underdog best ball teams. Nothing gets traded or dropped, so the verdict is about what I do in my next drafts at this price.

A back with 46% of his team's carries and a first-round ADP is what the pick is supposed to look like, and my board agreed with the market. I took him twice in sixteen drafts. In my next drafts I would take him in the first round again, and I would own more than 13%.

What would change my mind

If Tennessee's carries move away from him in close games, the share I am paying for is a product of a few blowouts and a big Auburn game.

If his receiving stays at eight catches in seven games, he has no pass-game floor, and a game like Texas becomes a very low week.
